Australian Associate Music Supervisor


Born in New Zealand, Stephen moved to Melbourne to study at the Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Piano and Composition. His first professional position was in the Australian premiere production of The Phantom of the Opera as a trainee repetiteur. Stephen played keyboards on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and was the pianist for Sondheim’s Follies in concert for the Melbourne International Festival. He has been Assistant Musical Director for Into the Woods (S.T.C.), South Pacific, Cats, The Secret Garden, My Fair Lady, Sunset Boulevard, Sweeney Todd (Q.T.C.), The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Sarah Brightman and Anthony Warlow, and The Sound of Music with Lisa McCune.

As Musical Director Stephen’s credits include Grease, West Side Story, the 10th Anniversary Production of Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!, Kiss Me Kate for The Production Company, Fiddler on the Roof with Topol, Hairspray, War Horse, and Billy Elliot, for which he won a Helpmann award.

He was the Music Supervisor for the Australian tours of Mamma Mia! in 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 and the Korean and Japanese productions of Billy Elliot. Stephen was the Music Supervisor, Orchestrator and Arranger for the world premieres of the Cat Stevens’ musical Moonshadow, The Seekers’ musical Georgy Girl and the Air Supply musical All Out Of Love. He was the Associate Music Supervisor/MD for the Australian production of Matilda the Musical for which he won his second Helpmann award and also supervised the Korean production. He is currently the Associate Music Supervisor for Moulin Rouge! in Australia.
